The High Concept

In Hollywood, when a new movie is being proposed, no money is allocated for the project until it is clearly understood what the high concept is. This is a very short explanation of the plot. The high concept for Focused on Success with Dave Romeo is entrepreneurial underdog success stories. In other words, I wanted to inspire people by telling stories of my coaching clients who overcome the odds and become successful. Once I could explain the high concept to potential sponsors, it made it much easier to get them on board.

The Coaching Lessons

As you watch the show, you’ll notice that coaching lessons will appear on the screen. As a coach, I provide my clients with strategies that will help them be successful. The idea of having those coaching lessons appear on the screen was originally inspired by the television show, The Blacklist. I love the way you see the number and name of each villain come on the screen along with his or her number on the list. I thought it would be great to number each of the coaching lessons. Eventually, I will release a book entitled Focused on Success Coaching Field Manual revealing each of the coaching lessons and how to use them.

The Title

When I originally pitched the idea of the show to the production crew, I suggested Stumbling Onto Success which is also the title of my books.

The idea was rejected because it was said that everything that led to my success was deliberately planned. While I would dispute that claim, I did understand the point.

In a conversation with my best friend, Peter Nicholson about doing a television series, he threw out the term, “Focused on Success.” As soon as I heard it, I knew that would be the perfect name for this series. I called Diane Dayton, the executive producer and said, “What do you think about this for title: Focused on Success with Dave Romeo?” She said, “Oooh, I like it,” and just like that, the show found its title.
